Sports Premium

The dedicated primary PE and Sport Premium, which was announced in March 2013 and began the following September, goes directly to primary school headteachers so that they can decide how best to use it to provide sporting activities for pupils.

Funding for 2017 – 18

For the year 2017/18, St Brigid’s school has already received £13,894 and will receive a further £3,656 in the new financial year (April 2018). We are using the premium to:

  • up-skill teachers to improve the quality of sport lessons
  • invest in quality coaching – through Extended Services Provision
  • provide training for pupils to become Buddies
  • provide more opportunities for pupils to take part in inter-school competitions through our SSCo links
  • offer a variety of extra curricular clubs – including during breakfast club, lunchtime and after school
  • purchase new resources
  • introduce new and unusual sports to encourage more children to participate

Sustainability 2017/18 and beyond

  • Teachers trained and carry forward skills that will be utilised in subsequent years and across year groups
  • After school activities to be made available to pupils in every class across the school year 17/18
  • Pupils encouraged to attend clubs that they participate in during 17/18 in subsequent years 2018/19 & 2019/20
  • Pupils who benefit from working as Buddies to be encouraged to become future Buddies
  • Existing Buddies to pass on their experience and knowledge to potential Buddies at the end of the academic year (17/18 and beyond)
  • Equipment to be available in future years, not just for the current academic year
