Attendance

Letters to Parents/Carers:

As you know, good habits are crucial and this includes being PUNCTUAL. Please help your child to do well at school by making sure they are up, ready and prepared for school on a daily basis and please ensure that they make it to school on time. For children in Years 1-6, the doors to the school hall open at 8.40am and all children should be in by 8.55am. Children in our Reception Class should go straight in to their class directly from the infant yard at 8.40am.

Mrs Lodge (Learning Mentor) will follow up absences with a first response call to home and any regular or prolonged absences will be challenged or referred to the Knowsley School Attendance Service.

Holidays:

Holidays can no longer be authorised by the school unless under exceptional circumstances. A letter from Knowsley LA was sent home earlier this year reminding parents of the changes and Mr Fleming is available to talk about these on request. It is important to note that requests for leave of absence should be made in writing address to Mr Fleming.

Parents/Carers may find the following information useful –

School Attendance

Central to raising standards in education and ensuring all pupils can fulfil their potential is an assumption so widely understood that it is insufficiently stated – pupils need to attend school regularly to benefit from their education. Missing out on lessons leaves children vulnerable to falling behind. Children with poor attendance and/or punctuality tend to achieve less in both primary and secondary school.

The government expects:

Schools and local authorities to:

Promote good attendance and reduce absence, including persistent absence;
Ensure every pupil has access to full-time education to which they are entitled;
Act early to address patterns of absence.

Parents / Carers to:

perform their legal duty by ensuring their children of compulsory school age who are registered at school attend regularly;
ensure pupils are punctual.

 All absences are noted and the School Attendance Service will follow up poor or erratic attendance.
